CAIR SPONSORS MURAD HOFMANN SPEAKING TOUR
Former German ambassador to focus on "Promoting Islam and Uplifting Muslims"
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/12/97) - On May 17, Dr. Murad Hofmann, a well-known
Muslim activist and author, will begin a speaking tour of the United States
with a lecture in the San Francisco Bay area. Similar lectures, sponsored by
CAIR, will be held in other cities around the country.
His talks, with the theme "Promoting Islam and Uplifting Muslims," will
focus on challenges and opportunities for Muslims in America, the future
relationship between Islam and the West and the duties of Muslims living in
this society.
"This series of lectures and fund-raising events is part of CAIR's effort to
serve the Muslim community and to promote grass-roots Islamic political and
social activism," said CAIR Board Chairman Omar Ahmad. "Inshallah, these
lectures will educate Muslims and stimulate discussion about the duties and
responsibilities of America's six million Muslims. CAIR is expanding and it
needs the full support of every individual to help carry out its mission,"
said Ahmad.
Dr. Hofmann served as Germany's ambassador to Algeria and Morocco, and was
at one time director of information for NATO. Now retired from the
diplomatic service, Dr. Hofmann writes and travels frequently.
