DR Hamid Othman Resigns as Malaysian Cabinet Minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 Asia Pulse - Dr Abdul Hamid Othman
has tendered his resignation as
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department to Prime
Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
Speaking at a news conference at his office here
Friday, he said the resignation letter was submitted
to
Dr Mahathir Mohamad before the Prime Minister left for
Myanmar on Wednesday for a working visit.
Abdul Hamid was made a senator to enable him to join
the Cabinet after his defeat in the General
Election on Nov 29 last year.
He failed to retain his Sik Parliamentary seat which
was won by novelist Prof Datuk Shahnon Ahmad of
the opposition Islamic PAS party.
On Thursday, Dr Hamid, an academician who was put in
charge of religious affairs by Dr Mahathir,
indicated to his party disivion in Sik which he heads
that he was among the ministers involved in the
cabinet reshuffle to be announced soon.
