Saya memandang persoalan yang dikemukakan oleh sdr Quiet sebagai satu
perkara yang serius. Sebab tak berilmulah maka anak-anak kecil yang
tak berdosa dirogol oleh orang yang dikenali.

information about her changing body, particularly about menstruation.

straight-forward answer to her questions is in order. Please don't
make
her feel guilty about wanting to know, it is normal. If your daughter
is raised in Islam, then she will know that sex outside of marriage is
forbidden. Just make it a practical biology lesson with the facts.
(If
she is like 99% of other pre-teen girls, her reaction to your
information is going to be "eeewwwww---yuck!!") But every child, male
or female, should know what are the normal functions of his or her own
body. Gently remind her that sex is something private, and not to
casually gossip about, or something that is engaged in outside of
marriage. Allah expects us to be chaste, not ignorant.

I think what's forbidden is talking to anyone about the private
sexual relations between you and your husband. This isn't the same
as giving your children general information about sex. In fact, they
need to know certain things before they reach puberty - like how to
recognize it, what they'll be held accountable for then, how to make
ghusl and when it's required, menstruation, etc.

I don't know how most muslims educate their kids these days. In the
past, at least with my husbands family the girl goes to her husband
with
a short talk from her mother on the day of her wedding. My sister in
laws then discussed basics as each of the younger girls got married in
the weeks from the nikaa to the wedding party. My daughter knows she
can ask any question she likes and I will answer her questions until
she is satisfied or if she wants to know things I feel she is too young
to handle then I just explain that I will discuss this with you at a
later date when I feel you are old enough to understand. She knows
that if I tell her this she REALLY does not want to know any more about
it. Some children are more curious than others and even my situation
with my daughter might change as she gets farther into the
unpredictable time of puberty. Here the school is very good about
lending information to parents that wish to have support while they
discuss private issues like this with their children and the good
thing about that is that the parent has complete control of the
content.
