Hikmatyar declares support to Taliban against US
TEHRAN—Former Afghan prime minister and Hizb-e-Islami chief
Engineer Hikmatyar has announced joining the Taliban against the
possible US attack on Afghanistan.
“I have decided to leave for Afghanistan to join hands with
Taliban against American aggression. In this regard all the
necessary arrangements have been made,” Hikmatyar said.
He directed his leaders, commanders and Mujahideen to get ready
for any eventuality in the face of US air or ground attack.
The Afghan leader said that American government wants to
establish the puppet government of the former Afghan monarch
Zahir Shah.
“The US war plan is aimed at imposing Zahir Shah and his
associates on Afghanistan. The Russians had invaded Kabul to
bring Babrak Karmal into power,” he said in an interview.
Hikmatyar said that the United States will think twice before
launching attack on Afghanistan besides keeping in view the
reaction of international community.
He said that the United States is expected to attack Afghanistan
at the weekend. There is a need of national unity in Afghanistan
to jointly fight against all foreign aggressors, he said.
Hikmatyar said that he has held talks with the Taliban on the
prevailing situation adding “we should not waste our time in
talks and instead should take practical steps for defence of
territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.”
Talking about the terrorism charges against Osama by the US
government, the Afghan leader said that these charges are
baseless. “If America is convinced that bin Laden is involved in
terrorist attacks, it should set up probe commission comprising
members of impartial countries. This commission should thoroughly
investigate the charges,” he said.
Hikmatyar warned the American government of dire consequences for
attacking Afghanistan.
“The Americans intend to punish the Taliban for their support to
Osama which is totally unjustified. The plan is the creation of
biased minds. Would the Americans allow the Arab countries and
Palestinians to attack the United States for its support to
Israel which is number one terrorist in the world,” he
questioned.
Hikmatyar warned the US government not to underestimate the
people of Afghanistan.—SANA
