TEHRAN: Former Afghan prime minister Gulbuddin
Hekmatyar on Tuesday said return of former King
Muhammad Zahir Shah to Afghanistan was unacceptable
and warned the whole region would suffer in the
aftermath of a US attack on the country. In an
interview with AFP, he branded the king an "American
Babrak Karmal", referring to the communist Afghan
leader installed in Kabul after invasion of Soviet
forces in 1979. "His return to power would be
unacceptable," Hekmatyar, said. "The people neither
want occupation nor a puppet regime, they want peace,"
Hekmatyar said and added the Northern Alliance was
wrong in having talks with the ex-king in Rome about
the country's future. "It will lose its credibility,"
he said of the alliance, with which he broke five
years ago.
