Or alternatively has anyone ever managed to get this error when the plugin is actually there ? Is it possible to make a bad build ?

Golly. Are you sure you don't know the answer to this question: Have taken the sample server plugin code and compiled it in VC on my win32 machine and it runs fine in a listen server, and have compiled those same files on my linux box using the makefiles in the linux_sdk directory and have the plugin .so file at hand, hurrah. I have put the .vdf file (the file that lets the server know that a plugin exists) in the hlds\cstrike\addons folder and have tried putting the plugin, the .so file, in hlds\bin and hlds\cstrike\bin, but without any luck. When starting up the server comes back with the same message: Unable to load plugin "prs-cs" How would I know if the .so file cannot be found, or was somehow incorrectly compiled - I need more information on the plugin load failure - any ideas how to get it ?
