Meh, it's all screwed. To get a STEAMID you need a valid email address. Your steamid will be the same for all games you play on STEAM. If you happen to purchase more then one version of Half-Life or it's related games that give you access to half life, both will remain locked in your account and you will have essentially "lost" one copy of your game into the steam void.
It's weird, it's wacky, and it's screwed atm. They just have to fix it up and put a little more thought into it =)
