I remember playin' HL DeathMatch on a 36.6k modem. It really sucked, but with
all the lag, I got REALLY good at anticipating player movement and shooting at
points in space where I figgered they'd be in the next frame. Was one of the
first to get ADSL in L.A. soon afterwards and have been pursuing the hi-speed
thing ever since. Am now FiOS and luvin' HL2 on it.

Don't get me started about the good old days. I was looking at the HL1 DM
server list last night, and got a lump in my throat thinking about the many
hours I've spent rampaging through subtransit, the snark_pit, bounce, etc.
when there were at any time dozens of servers running any of these maps,
most of which were full of people. I remember when the total number of
Half-Life servers reached the 1000 point! Ahh...when www.won.west was full
of people and fun to play on, when Charlotte Death Squad ran OZ and maxed
out players, back even before Cucamonga Chunk of Plegm was a hot server....I
remember when DeathMatch was king and we didn't have this namby pamby
CounterShite stuff....

And then I look at my OP4 server, which a few years ago was packed and today
sits empty....

I went to fire up a Q4 server today, and whaddayaknow, it won't run on
non-SSE systems. Crap...time to upgrade.....again...
