On a server I was on, I was able to have it print my name to the console by using none standard letters in my name, and calling rank with a hlstats plugin.
Not sure if its related. I had a Unicode style gun, so I don't know what the letters are exactly, but hlstats would output the first few letters of my name, then it would just break.
