I guess one option would be to change the graphic for the icon and make it transparent, but that would most likely require significant work for the game and a forced download to all the clients who connect to you server. Sorry... Unless I'm missing something, it appears you're out of luck. Sounds like a good feature request for the DOD:S Steam forum though.
