Less than half the 4 1/2 billion hosts ipv4 provides are even routable. Remove RFC1918 address space from that... and we still have over a billion addresses left. With more and more people making the most out of NAT and RFC1918 address space, over the last couple of years, the increase in assigned ipv4 address space has tailed off.

Stating ipv4 space will run out of addresses by 2005 is simply a scare
tactic to get people off their ass to start looking into implimentation
of ipv6.
