I was afraid that could be the case. Downgrading does the trick, thanks! However, glibc 2.3.1 seems to work, too. Hint for those who don't want to downgrade the whole system: Copy a working glibc version (2.3.1 in my case) into the hlds-directory as libc.so.6. hlds will use this one instead of the system-wide, because hlds_run sets LD_LIBRARY_PATH (have to do this for hltv too if needed).
