In a nutshell, there are problems with the processor usage running the Linux
binaries.  It's something Valve knows about and is actively working on right
now.

Windows servers don't have the same issues, and it's not an Intel or AMD
thing.   I've got a dual Xeon 2.0 GHz box that can hold maybe 80 players if
I'm lucky.

We've been waiting awhile for these fixes, and Valve is now working on
hooking us up.

Has anyone noticed wierd behavior with reported cpu usage by top.
On my RedHat 9 system dual AthlonMP 2000, each server spikes up 50, 80 or
100 and with players in it uses around 20% avg and goes up to 80-100,  yet
the %idle never seems to drop below 70%. Also vmstat reports little cpu
usage in the user space.
