No date for DOD Source no, not that what I've heard. Though your on about
providers that could steel themselves for a move, well msot providers would
of already moved most of their systems over.

I for one moved the majority unless otherwise requested, moved over to
srcds, it was very un-troublesome and pretty pain free moving over. Plus you
know that Valve will support it, and any major issues which will obviously
crop up will be fixed to a certain degree of speed.

I wonder what the developer work effort is between Valve products...

I severely doubt it will happen ! but I would love to know from any Valve
employee how many man hours or how much team effort is being given to
hlds/l, counter-strike, counter-strike:source, VAC2, DOD:source and even
'other upcoming projects'.

If we knew for definite that hlds support was never going to pick up again
and for work to stop in the near future (if not already), hlds server
providers could steel themselves for a move to srcds or at least make an
informed decision on what next.

Is there a date announced for DOD:source ?

What, *legally* is what you're talking about? I have no idea what their
legal responsibilities are, but I would suggest that it makes good business
sense to support your clients and perform maintenance on your products as
needed. And in the specific case of Valve's library of products, bear in
mind that while you sneeringly point out that there's no fee to run the game
server products, those game server products being run by the community are
the lifeblood of Valve's software. What you're basically saying is,
"Hmmmm...as a server admin, Valve isn't charging me to do them a favor."
You're supporting and helping to create a market for their software. I
think it's reasonable to expect a little support for that in return, and I
think Valve's shown that they believe that as well. They may seem a little
slow-moving from time to time, but for the most part, they do get the job
done. And I think you'd find that they'd argue against your rather inane
points.

I think, perhaps, you're getting more caught up in arguing for argument's
sake than in reasoned discourse.
