I don't understand, how do you people getproblems. On my Suse 9.1
(kernel-smp-2.6.5-7.201) had no problems sice v24. Well, there were some
when VAC didn't start on my 27016/27017 servers using v26 or v27... I don't
remember.

I have a hard enough time trying to herd the penguins that are Linux,
lets not add a plethora of little daemons to the mix :)
I am looking into the crash problem, it appears that the fix for the
2.6.13/.14 folk may have effected earlier kernels in a negative manner
(why does this feel like whack-a-mole?)
