When will the Server Engine be released for Red Orchestra? Do you have
any
advise on setting it up on Linux?

It will be released when the game is. It will be using the
hldsupdatetool for updates. Details will be sent to these lists when it
is available.

And assumable will function like a typical Unreal Dedicated Server but
with updating functions happening through Steam.

Yes, the Red Orchestra game server is based on the Unreal engine.

I am quite hopeful in being able to combine my hldsupdatetools scripts
with my current scripts for RO (since I already support RO for UT2k4
installs via my game control panel) Now back to making Warcraft3 an
install option with CS:S.

It is mani. If you dont want random nextmaps just disable it in mani's
configuration.

Is the server standalone or does it require the retail package?

Thanks,

The server will be available for free via the hldsupdatetool.

released
Reply-To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com

Updates to the Source and Half-Life 1 dedicated server have been
released. Run the hldsupdatetool to get this update.

This update makes public the "swapbeta" that has been running for a
while. This update is optional but HIGHLY recommended as it fixes the
steamid swapping bug seen on servers. This update also smoothes out some
spiky CPU usage seen on servers and fixes several crashes on Linux
distributions using older GLIBC versions.

Did I read the news right that Red Orchestra still uses the
UT4 engine? How does Valve propose to supply a game via Steam that
uses a different engine? I'd think this question goes beyond the
admin list but would have a direct impact on mod-makers, small software
shops looking for a distribution source other than CD's at Fry's,
and in general provide an idea of what future reason we might have to
place the Steam updatetool on, say, an Unreal 2004 dedicated server.

If it's distributed via Steam and uses a different engine, we
may have to do a few things differently when updating.

Will Steam be the content delivery and Source still be a
different engine such that I can use Steam to load a server on,
say, a box with an AMD-K2 chip or an Intel DX4-100, and the Unreal
engine will run and the Steam update will run, but loading CS:S will
still find the CPU's are out-of-date?

I'm just curious if I'll have to risk updating a box to a
newer CPU to download code that might run on an older one. Has that
been brought up in the internal discussions?

Our DOD Source servers hit 100% CPU after a few minutes & cripple the
boxes, following todays update. This is with no players and no
absolutely no plugins at all, i.e addons folder removed.

This really is not good
