Thry the new 2.6.18_rc3 (rc 2 patched to 3) kernel with 1000hz, Preempt off (server setting), Deadline I/O Scheduler, HPET Timer Support and give that a try... the 2.6.18 series kernel did wonders for SRCDS...... (I know your dealing with hlds)
