This shouldn't be too hard to test. Self sign a cert, fire up apache with mod_ssl, modify the server.cfg to point to https, and tail to httpd log to see if a connection attempt is made by the game server. Even if it dies due to a cert error, you'll be able to see if the client supports that type of connection.
