I have been held up with many things as well.  
However, I am starting to fool with gcc-4.1.0 as it has the  
libssp now.  
  
As far as the Xorg7, I also noticed that while glxinfo  
reports no direct rendering, I am getting some sort of  
improved performance over software-rendering in the basic 
lfs-branch. (albeit slow)
