Hi list,
I'm new to this list (and hence cannot reply to an earlier mail), but I
searched the archive and came across an earlier mailexchange dealing
with the fact that SVN-20060220 appears unbootable.
<snip>
On the other hand, I've had similar problems with a basic kernel
upgrade to 2.6.14.6, so maybe that's the culprit?
Which brings me to my last question: Where do I get hold of an older
version of HLFS? The previous version appears to be adequate for me.
I can also confirm trouble booting using HLFS-SVN-20060220. I recompiled
several times with the same result, before I downgraded to kernel
2.6.14.3 and it boots. So it seems the book is basically ok, but there's
something weird about kernel 2.6.14.6. I couldn't make it work no matter
what I tried.
The grsecurity patch for kernel 2.6.14.3 can be found on the ftp
mirrors, just have to look in the right place ;)
Try
ftp://ftp.linuxfromscratch.org/pub/lfs/conglomeration/grsecurity/
or maybe
http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/lfs/lfs-packages/conglomeration/grsecurity/
I know downgrading isn't the best solution, but an unbootable system is
unusable anyway...
