GCC using Glibc shouldn't be trying to link to -lssp_nonshared. Try: make gcc_cv_libc_provides_ssp=yes To see if that helps. I've been busy the last couple weeks. I'll try to make time to find what's wrong with the book. The book was working for me last time I tried. This looks like a problem with the fstack-protector gcc patch. robert
