Thanks all for the help :)

Currently I still use the bad'n'ugly obstrusive Ajax.updater to update
my div. However I would really be interested to see how to implement
this "unobstrusive".
Bryan, or somebody, could you give a hint how to create a mouseover/
mouseclick handler for the table-plus row which also works without js?

Kevin, the inclusion of all data on-load time is a good idea, but I
have too much data to load so its better to only do it on request for
my case.

Best regards,
Sebastian

P.S. this is btw. what I currently have, and works (the
remote_function didn't, because I couldnt find how to correctly
specify the id (@collection.id doesnt work):
  <tr: onmouseover="new Ajax.Updater('info-box', '/person/updatebox',
{asynchronous:false, evalScripts:true, parameters:'id=' +
#{this.id}})"/>
