It is a program that stops people using your ports that can be progs that try and get in to say howdy - and sell you gunk or phone home to say you are using their product etc. . . . + of course potentially there are other less innocuous 'port sniffers' (they are rare but well . . .) a well designed program like sygate or zonealarm will help with that If you practice safe computing you may not need to keep a virus protector in memory (yes a virus protector WILL inevitably slow your machine when it runs in memory - memory guard mode - or resident mode) but you should do a system virus check regularly . . . which one to use? Neat really - the emerging threat is websites that run code (and can therefore access your computer) as soon as it hears about these spywareblaster adds them to its database of URL's and stops you going there Kewl and it is recommended by spybot (similar to adaware) LOL - the stinger service that Joyce like is using the ability to use code from a web site beneficially val is using a Mac which has a built in firewall You may have heard this info before . . . but we do not want your equanimity spoiled by mal contents . . .
