downloaded it from the Network Associates site and put it on the bad
computer (the link is in the archives on this list or you could
google), and then let it do it's detect and repair... After that, you
can deal with Norton updates.

down but not out ...
back on my feet ...
legs a bit wobbly but if i can hold out
until the end of the round ...
keep playing rope a dope a little longer ...
Stinger found 4 files infected by W32/Sasser.worm b ...
which is a new one.
i see no option for repaining those files ...
so it removed them. hope they weren't something i needed.
we will see.
one was C:\Windoze\avserve2.exe
sound familiar or a file that windoze needs?
i saw it in Run directory in the registry
when i check yesterday and now it is gone so ... ???
the others were variations of numbers and lived
in Windows\System32\ ...
13976_up.exe
20164_up.exe
20293_up.exe
i see they have also been removed and i see nothing
similar to them in that directory now.
a question for you, or anyone, on Restore.
i had to turn off the Restore function to run
the virus fix ... or otherwise it survives and
is restored along with everything else.
but ... in turning off Restore ...
i lose all my previous restore points!!!
so now ... should i actually have gotten rid
of the virus ... if i have lost files, such
as the ones above, that i need ...
i can no longer go back to a restore point where
they still exist.
wouldn't you think there would be a way to maintain
selected Restore points if one has to do this?
i wonder if i could have copied a previous restore
file somewhere so i could once again go to it once
i am back up and have restarted the Restroe function.
using XP home, btw ...
but the same thing wold happen with ME i would think.
anyway ...
rebooting the computer now and we will see.
well ... it still boots up. ;)
will run stinger again and see if anything was
missed and then try to connect to the web.
will let you know what happens.
thanks
