I thouholygeekght it might be nice to tell you of some of the software I use and why .
. .

Opera Browser
http://www.opera.com/
This started as a browser with excellent support for the disabled
(any size viewing for the partially sighted for example) and mouse gestures
for the physically impaired.
Whilst Netscape and Internet Explorer were slugging out
their 'free' browsers - Opera was charging
Now they (in my opinion quite legitimately) have
an adware option - which makes it free
The program is now owned and developed and supported (very well)
by IBM

Crap Cleaner (not a good name)
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Just leave the default settings.
It cleans out the registry
(one of the causes of slow down)
and deletes accumulated junk
It will get rid of things like histories (places you have visited)
and other stored setting - (which you may need)
On the whole it is worth clearing your system . . .

Irfanview (convert, view, modify graphics) - very useful
http://www.irfanview.com/
First came across this in the DOS version (pre-windows)
Now it is new, improved and stable
and will allow you to view pics and compress them for sending
or displaying

Miranda - Instant messaging - for example my ICQ is 341459133
http://www.miranda-im.org/
I like this a lot but some people report difficulties.
ICQ has adverts (which in my opinion) are over the
top and intrusive - this program can fit on a floppy disk
(whatever they once were . . .)

Foxmail E-mail
http://www.foxmail.com.cn/english/english_2.htm
Similar to Outlook Express
I had used Eudora, Pegasus and Thunderbird
but found this has many strengths (but the spell checker needs improving)
mostly to do with ease of use, grabbing spam, fast
It is just there. It works.

CurlChat - Chat Room
http://www.zen45800.zen.co.uk/curlchat/
Great fun when installed. 100% reliable
Actually I can not be objective about this
as I am part of the development team . . .
It is evolving and we try and have regular
chats Monday, Wednesday and Friday
at 1200 GMT
