If Lizzie is downloading stuff - let her get infected - it is not contagious but ultra caution is . . . .
- it is no biggie

don't sort it out for her
let her do it

 - then tell us how it is done!

:)

It is sometimes painful to watch people learn things, isn't it?

She has realized that it is faster for her to simply reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS and then port her files from the other computer THAN it is to properly diagnose and repair.

I installed FireFox and sygate and reinstalled AVG and  after that she copied down her (still infected) files from the Dell Desktop... and it finally sunk in for her that ALL the computers need to be scrubbed.

:)

I worked on the computers for more than 8 hours straight on Sunday and i still cannot get the main one on the internet at all, which makes it impossible to download any updated software necessary for troubleshooting and repair. I can move things from the USB keydrive to the sick computers, but am concerned about the possibility of the keydrive picking up an infection in the process. Is that possible?

A tech support friend at work said he will burn some things to CD which is a great help, but this will not happen for 3 or 4 days.

In the meantime, i have almost no online access at home, and very minimal from the office... A nice time to be still and quiet.

Puppy is the most fun (a new version soon will have Opera Browser - it is still smaller than Firefox - so good for small distros
- it also has an install to USB keydrive - keydrive seems the adopted term incidentally - when you boot from CD)

If you want to improve your geek status try the Austrumi distribution
it already has Opera and an English option - plus some interesting overcoming of Windows security
(be your own administator)

Thanks.
- sadly I could not understand the Latvian (yep - Latvian Freeware) to get the Browser working

Latvia - now there is a hotbed of technology!
and I have not read of anyone getting a keydrive version working . . .)
so you could be the first to boldly go . . .

I would be happy to boldly go...
And if you aspire to real super geek status try running the live CD version of FreeBSD
(- yep run BSD from a CD like Knoppix)
so secure - interesting little devil :-) but not for me - YET!
got it working but it was slow and boring (to me)

.
had to move Holygeeks Freeware page

This is a great compilation of software! Very useful and so handy to have it all in one place. Thanks for it.

==========
thanks - you are welcome

:)

Did i mention that the WebMonkey (for kids) you sent a while ago is useful, too?

have added a new Linux section (for all the above info)

. . . and check out the web design software released
a few days ago

- Friedger should be pleased - has PHP support . . .

Cool.

Maybe i can get around to adding RAM to that Fedora server in the not too distant... and then there could be a mirror for CurlChat as promised.

love,
joyce

PS - The good news is the town i live in has an employee who has the official job title and function of "Tree Warden."

:)
