I'd heard people say that OS X is unix... Does the B in BSD stand for Berkley?
======= Yes - what about the rest though? ======= Happy Harvest Festival! I like holidays that have to do with planting and growing things and food. The Jewish equivalent is in October? Or is it late September? Is there a Buddhist equivalent? ===== Dunno ===== I am reading the prequel to The DaVinci code, and he is talking about religions conquering new lands and transmuting the local calendar of holidays and rituals to accommodate those of the conquerors. He explains how Jesus was born in March but Christmas Day corresponded to the equinox holiday already being observed, and so December became the month of His birth. Is that any of that true? ====== Serious Bible scholars tend to concur Christmas is not celebrated by some Christian sects because it is a pagan festival The Christmas Tree is pagan The loathing (and fear) of paganism persists with many Christians. The whole of the Christian religion was paganised by the Romans - then they went and converted and felt superior. Not unusual (St) Paulist Christianity is paganism and a continuation of the Roman empire well past its sell by date. Pagans are very accomodating in my experience, often with a knowledge of Christianity that surpasses most Christians ======== It's in the cucumber family, i think, like other squashes and is often served roasted or pureed or makes a wonderful soup. Here's a picture: http://www.humeseeds.com/sqshbnt.htm Today i had it roasted and then mashed, seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg and clove and brown sugar... and a tiny bit of butter. Usually i use olive oil exclusively, but this one tastes better with butter. Sometimes people add maple syrup to it - great if you can get the real syrup. ========= A squash is a gourd. Not widely used in the UK though I was at a Christian Monastery on retreat were they made great use of them at every meal ========= You fried your computer! But sounds like it is all sorted out now? What about the ram sticks - were they ok in the end? Neat looking lobster mug, btw. ======= In the early days of computing (and it will happen again) you could have a system that worked at 100% now I aim for 70%-90% So not everything is sorted (the CD burner is reported as non-atapi) but I have problems with it - so will have to sort out Have not used the floppy Will put a second hard drive in at some point etc Rest is OK ======= A 3 minute boot is very impressive. ========== Beatrix is based on Knoppix and I think this is rather slow but it is a nice final environment Puppy Linux is very fast ======== Hope to see people at Curl chat in the morning. Is it 12:00 or 13:00 GMT these days? love and peace, joyce ========= I will try for 12:00 GMT Lob http://chronologyprotectionagency.blogspot.com/ ======= ------------------------ Yahoo!
