Hi all, At Eugene Oregon, USA, there was a nice IHS horn get-together last Friday, Sat. and Sunday--I only heard Sat. evening and Sunday mid-day. High points, for me: Duo written by Daniel Wood (California), played by Greg Roosa and Amy Jo Rhine (both St. Louis), a 1750 concerto by one of the Graun brothers, played by John Ericson (Arizona), a solo piece, "Son of Till," by Paul Basler, played by Bill Bernatis (Las Vegas), and Anthony Plog's new horn quartet, played by "Quadre." Quadre is Lydia Van Dreel, Amy Jo Rhine, Nathan Pawelek, and Daniel Wood. What a great piece the Plog is. THANKS Tom Bacon for getting the commission started on it. I got some hornists, young and old, to improvise freely in a workshop, and it was also really nice to play (tunes, including Summertime w. the 3 horn background) with bass and drums, later, for Jim Decker and other folks--Stacey Eliason, Ian Johnson, Jeff Snedeker, all helped with jazz soloing! Thanks to Lydia Van Dreel for organizing. Sorry I missed Patrick Hughes (Austin Texas) doing the Messaien "Interstellar Call"--my dinner break. And, it was great to meet my host, former hornist Andrew Lewinter (was in Florida) , he now is a lawyer that happens to live in Eugene. Great guy.
