I've had success holding the mouthpiece by the stem and GENTLY tapping the rim on a hard surface that won't scratch or dent brass, such as hardwood, linoleum, smooth concrete, etch. covered with a piece of soft cloth. This breaks the little corrosion bonds that form between the rim and the cup, allowing it to come free. Note - if you hit the rim too hard, there is still the risk of creating flat spots. Try this at your own risk...
Something I've never tried for this specific application but use all the time unsticking my mouthpiece from my leadpipe are rubber grip pads for opening can lids, like http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=914451&page=4. Perhaps two of those, one to hold the rim and one to hold the stem, would work? I hope this helps, Ben ________________________________ From: Otto Henry <[email protected]> To: [email protected]; [email protected] Sent: Fri, August 6, 2010 12:14:07 AM Subject: [Hornlist] removing rim from bowl? Speaking of mouth pieces (pun) does anyone know how to remove stuck screw rim from screw bowl? The following does not work: 1. Pliers and vise (do not try this at home!) 2. Soaking in Break-Free 3. Cooling in freezer 4. Heating under hot water Have not tried: 5. Send MP back to Lawson Expect No. 5 the only resort. Any ideas welcome!
