Greetings --
I have finally established a nice, informal WW quintet in my area, and seek
suggestions for basic literature for us to read through -- and sources for
these works. We have assembled a small but interesting repertoire so far
but of course can always use more ideas. My thanks in advance. Jonathan,
If you really want to have fun with your quintet you might just consider trying
the work of a promising young composer. His grandfather and both great uncles
were horn maestri, his father plays as well, and despite what you may be
thinking his surname is not Brain, it's BERV, as in Mahlon Berv, who is
currently a composition major at Indiana University. This link has the quintet
score, all parts, and MIDI recording:

Here's his website:

Mahlon just coached me through his unaccompanied Bagatelle for horn which I
also love. I have the score and and a recording, let me know and I will hook
you up (this kid needs a fan club and any and all are welcome). Best regards,
Lou Denaro
