I have heard it opined that when some of the major works were first
performed the musicians were much more open to arriving at the hall after
having had a glass or two. Could this just be a return to older practices?

Hey if someone is going to worry about my playing or someone elses playing,
then
we ALL need to have a little Wild Turkey before we play or listen.  It is
amazing how much better "everything" and everyone sounds then. :)
