Thanks for the email. If was in NE, I'd sure go!

One thing that crossed my mind (since I'm heading over to the SE Workshop
in Boone, NC) is that for amateur players like myself there really aren't
many competitions for us. I kind of miss competing, but since I'm not an
undergrad in college anymore about the most I can do at these things is try
out
horns and play in mass choirs.

Are there amateur competitions (non-pro, non college level) in any regional
 workshop?

Hello Hornlorn,

I appreciate the concerns expressed here about The Northeast Horn
Festival. Please allow me the opportunity to clarify things a bit.

I have become aware of the cyber space connection problems to the site
and
we will remedy that appropriately ASAP.

I should have the tentative schedule up on the web site this week or
next.
It includes master classes with all of the featured artists and others,
targeted at specific participant status: amateur, high school,
collegiate;
solo and quartet competitions (with a potential grand prize of a week's
scholarship to KBHC for the winning quartet), concerts featuring both
soloists
and ensembles plus the opportunity for every participant to play in an
ensemble, coached by a professional, and perform on the final concert.
There
will be dedicated vendor time each day. I'm doing my best to provide as
diverse a schedule as possible and give to all participants a meaningful
musical experience.

As to the name change, it is appropriate, as this event is for EVERYONE
(amateur, professional and students, alike) to CELEBRATE our instrument,
its
history and repertoire, and to have the opportunity to MAKE MUSIC ON THE
HORN!

So far, interest is running high despite the web search problems and
turnout should be good. Please visit the site from time to time for
updates:
_www.northeasthornworkshop.org_ (http://www.northeasthornworkshop.org) .

Please join us at UNH in March!

Sincerely,

Kendall Betts
