The deal with Europe versus America (from what I know) is that America doesn't pay as much in taxes on fuel, and considers auto traffic a primary method of transportation. In Europe, rail, subway, and mass transit are usually considered the primary methods of transportation - and as a result usually end up cheaper than auto travel would be in the states. In Europe, you can live without a car. In the US, you can't in 99% of the country. Unfortunately, the US is rather large, the oil companies have a huge stake in transportation and truck traffic, and even if we did get very good mass transit rail across the country, I doubt it would be on time and useful. -William In a message dated 2/23/2011 5:53:52 P.M.
