Why didn't you say so ;)? I don't know anything about arrangements of this overture. Rossini is a fine composer; his works are structurally competent, but not compositionally brilliant. He relies greatly on orchestration and effects. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this given the venue for which he wrote. But it does present issues when arranging his music. A ww quintet does not have equivalent orchestrational resources compared to full orchestra, so any arranger is fighting a battle under disadvantage. You could download the score for the overture from imslp.org and give a try at arrangeing it yourself. You will likely learn a lot. One suggestion -- if your flautist doubles piccolo, that in effect makes available two extra instrument timbres: piccolo in high range, and that marvelous piccolo low range. If you attempt this, I'd be interested in seeing the result. _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
