Horn players are a fraternity, despite contradictory opinions and some feuding on the list. As a consequence of the Horn List, I contacted Michael D. Clark in Singapore who kindly looked into the possibility of my borrowing an instrument whilst I was out there visiting my son and his family. He put me in touch with Jamie Hersch, Associate Principal of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra who is a partner in the instrumental shop there and who loaned me a Hoyer Heritage for the duration. We found we had mutual friends, not least Joe Ognibene, Principal of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. It is these coincidences and connections which shrink the world (professional and amateur) in which we live. So, thanks to the Horn List and special thanks to Michael and Jamie for their help and friendship. I can now face three performances of Mahler 2 with a bit of confidence and lip! Ralph R.
