This is your question not quoting me as it looks like. Yes, I encountered clams, mostly very little clams, at the beginning the second scene of act two in Goetterdaemmerung, where all 8 horns have to enter with low c (concert F) one after the other. This spot is asked for in most auditions for high or low horn here in Middle Europe as it is very critical if you have a break in your embouchure. Admitted, clams happen here & there, no matter what position you hold in the section, - and we first horn (former first horn in my case as retired) are not clam-save either.
But I talked about the different place at the beginning of act 3, which has a similar problem - for many players. When they arrive at the g2 (written) finally, I heard some "nice" vibrato ........., sometimes as big, that one can throw a Mexican sombrero through the vibrato waves easily. Got it ! Yes, I have encountered clams from horns 3, 5 & 7 at the very beginning of act three, when horns 1, 3, 5 & 7 play the Siegfried Signal in unison. What to do, if you are on stage & you have to answer with the echo ????? Repeat the clam, perhaps ? Quite difficult ? I tried that during a rehearsal. Can you imagine the fun ???? Can you imagine a 2nd act of Siegfried, standing at the side of the scene, waiting for the birds voice, human-size eggs walking around on the scene, covering just the upper half of very nice bodied ballerinas, the next one in a distance of three meters, half bowed down, with her back to you, exposing all ......., but you have to concentrate yourself to the Long Call ......... (we are just simple men .... not made of ice !!). ########################################################### Am 14.05.2011 um 18:56 schrieb Nelson R.
