Klaus, I have to say that I'm confused and perturbed by your responses. Heaven forbid that I should owe my allegiance to any school of thought. I made a plea that we should take a more objective view about our musical relationship with the people we play alongside and our role in the music we play. Even if I found a 'reductive' view interesting, it would not necessarily mean that I unequivocally supported it. Also, I hope you don't mean reductive in the OED sense of 'reducing to absurdity' because I don't consider Steve's point to be absurd at all. He makes a cogent point made upon harmonic considerations which is perhaps simplified and non-technical for the benefit of the general subscribers to this list. I think we are arguing semantics here.
