Hello Lawrence, it seems that there are some occasions where you not only take two bells with you, but two or three horns. There is a famous story about a horn audition when Fritz Reiner was the boss in Chicago. A long retired well known horn player, then a candidate for the audition, walked in with three horns. But Fritz Reiner asked him: "Whhatt for is tziss horrn ?" - "It is my Mahler horn, Sir !" - "Hmm, and tziss other horrn ?" - "It is my Mozart horn, Sir !" - "And tzeh third horrn, whatt for is tziss ?" - "Sir, this is my Wagner horn !" - long pause - "Would you mind playing Mozart for me, - - with your Mahler horn ????". - The story is told that way.
Do you know, why some sections insist that everybody uses the same model from the same maker ? - Right, as all these instruments have identical "defects" (all f2 too flat, the written e1 too sharp - or similar), the section will sound balanced superbly. But how about the intonation when playing together with other instrument groups ?????? ########################################################### Am 25.06.2011 um 09:46 schrieb Lawrence Yates: > Alright, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but why would you need > to carry two bells? > > Cheers, > > Lawrence > > On 25 June 2011 08:30, Alon reuven <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Hi all >> If i encounter a situation in which i need to carry two bells i just cover >> the bell ring with bubble nylon and put the other bell on it.
