I'm really enjoying this discussion. I hope no one else feels "tromped upon" by my criticism of "negative proof" demonstrations. I apologize for my tone if anyone else was offended. It's not my intention to make anyone feel bad. It is my intention to keep an open mind about playing techniques and encourage others to do the same.
But seriously guys, haven't you ever seen the kind of "negative proof" demonstration I'm talking about, where a musician will demonstrate how awful one particular technique is vs another? Anybody could produce a similar demonstration to prove that green hats ruin their tone while red hats make it better. I liked Herb's remark: > Some say you should free buzz, some say you should NOT. Some of us cannot free > buzz. This may have to do with mouth and lip structure. > > One size does not fit all. Last week, I chatted briefly with a horn player (who shall remain nameless), who quietly confided in me that he can't free buzz worth a darn! He says his lips just don't work that way, yet he's among the finest horn players I've heard. I'd die to play as well as he does..... so does that mean if I never free buzz, I'll play as well as he does? -- Valerie Wells The Balanced Embouchure Method http://bebabe.wordpress.com/ http://www.beforhorn.blogspot.com/ _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
