Doug, no disrespect intended, but I believe some professional performers are
out of touch w/ the goals of amatuer horn players.  Perhaps you're right
about some, but I believe you are presuming things about amatuers that do
not apply to all.  The goal of many an amatuer performer is to simply have
FUN playing the horn.  For many, it's a hobby, an interesting & stimulating
pass-time, not a profession or a religious quest.  When you see them at a
festival/gathering, they aren't necessarily there to find the "Holy Grail"
that's going to transform them into world class musicians.  Many are simply
there to socialize with others with whom they share common interests and to
have fun shopping around, trying and buying new horns & equipment, new
music, etc.
