Where those odd measures of length become interesting is in the surveying business. Mainly in the Southwest US where the original survey were done during the 1500 - 1600 as part of the Spanish Empire. Lot of land grants, etc are the basis for land description today. Trying to reconstruct a survey conducted three years ago that being "the big Oak Tree and the edge of the stream. . ."
