I should have made it clear that the recording was only a reminder for me --
I've heard both Bloom and Jones many times in person, and never heard either
have any trouble projecting.  Of course, a fine player can make almost any
horn sound good anywhere, but in my experience, a large-throat horn can be
made to project very well in any hall, and tends to produce a sound which is
fuller and "meatier" than a medium-throat instrument.  Whether you like that
kind of sound is up to you.
