The old "Green Books" published originally by Hofmeister are indeed the
ones Thomas Bacon has enlarged and edited for Southern Music. I
believe the title is 86 German Quartets.

Other material that may prove useful:

Quartet Concert and Contest Collection (Rubank)
-many easy and interesting quartets. 4th horn in treble clef.

Six Quartets - F. Schubert/V. Reynolds (Southern Music)
Six Quartets - R. Schumann/V. Reynolds (Southern Music)
Fair Play Vol. 1, 2, 3 - E. Gogolack (Hornists Nest)

The Reynolds transcriptions are very accessible and function very well
for players of moderate ability and beyond.

The Fair Play volumes are absolutely delightful. Ed Gogolack has a
very creative way of scoring for the ensemble where the bass part and
melody is scattered throughout all parts. Unlike many quartets, these
are indeed four parts of equal importance and difficulty. If you are
not familiar with his 4 Polish Carols and 4 French Carols, these are
absolutely wonderful. The way he scores for the ensemble makes for
enjoyable playing and listening.

These quartet books should be in any hornist's library. These are
really fun.

In addition, you may be interested in some of the titles published by
Broadbent and Dunn. John Wood has arranged some very clever
arrangements for 4 horns and rhythm section. The arrangements are
pricey, being British publications, but are really worth it to have in
your library.

Happy Holiday Horning!

Sincerely,

Eldon Matlick
