Paul, I just wanted to thank you for the most welcome background information on this recording. I guess I am a facts kind of person and love to know who, what and when and I particularly appreciate this sort of input. It as also hard to conceive of any controversy or personal attacks arising from this sort of factual approach. Your tales of playing and players over there are unfailingly interesting (and usually quite amusing) and I feel that the list (or at least its members of long standing) owe you a bit of thanks.
Thanks again, Peter Hirsch >Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 09:43:24 -0500 >From: Paul Kampen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: Re: [Hornlist] er: DG Recording of anonymous Konzertstueck > >Message: 19 > >>(don't recall, but I bet it was one of our brethren in Albion) wrote back >>that Nigel Black, Laurence Davies, Laurence Rogers and Peter Blake were the >>most excellent soloists. > >Dear All > >Just for the record, Nigel Black and Laurence Davies are the two principal >horns in the Philharmonia; Laurence Rogers was then the 3rd (previously he >was principal in the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and is on first for >their recordings of Richard Strauss' music with Neemi Jaervi) and is now >1st horn with the Halle in Manchester.
