Hans-

Speaking of stuff that doesn't seem to make it to America TV: we very much
appreciated Jascha Fischer's (please forgive the spelling) remarks to Mr.
Rumsfeld, which were broadcast here on BBC America. It was wonderful to see
the bullying warmonger cowed for a change. Many of us here applaud the
German government and people in their leadership in trying to stop this
insane war.

Subject: [Hornlist] I remember

Back in the 1960-ies, there was an election campaign in Germany, when senior
chancellor Konrad Adenauer was still the leader of the Christian Democratic
Party (CDU), even at age 90. He was one of the great Europeans, who created
the core of what is now the European Union (E.U.), together with Charles
DeGaulle.

Well, during this campaign, there was a special radio program, created by
the Socialist Party (SPD) around Erich Ollenhauer. The title of the radio
program was: "Learn Rhenish (the dialect or idiom of Rheinland province,
spoken by Konrad Adenauer) with the Bundeskanzler (Chancellor)", all
fabricated from recorded speeches, cut into word slices & put together
again. Not a very difficult task then, but much easier today with all the
electronic tools, and further not so difficult as Mr.Adenauer reduced his
vocabulary to not more than 300 different words. (Today there are
politicians !!!, who get along even with a much shorter vocabulary, even
repeating these very short sentences over & over until they believe them
themselves !).

This radio programm was entertaining & never insulted the old gentleman
chancellor.

Why do I write about this ? Well, Al Jazeera could provide such a program as
"Learn Arabic with Osama !" - Not funny at all ! But the timing is very
interesting, as such "tapes" are broadcasted at "appropriate times", means,
when decisions should be forced. These people think perhaps, that we are
Kindergarten children, believing Mickey Mouse & Dagobert Duck. The same
happen with the survey about "War support by the American People". You
remember the survey ten days or two weeks ago, when 855 people were
questioned, less than a 250.000th of the US population. And NOW: politicians
& journalists, even serious journalists, point on that survey as the opinion
of the American people. Not funny at all. And the opinion of the American
people is NOT pro War, as I know from many letters on this list & private
letters I received.

Last night we had a serious program, featuring a serious journalist & writer
from Austria, who has been in Iraq twice the last ten months, and the former
double of Saddam Husseins notorious son. This man, many times acting on
place of Husseins son, when he was afraid being assassinated, left Iraq
several months ago, and he witnessed many of the cruelties committed by
S.Husseins son (the double reported incredible things, - and he made a very
serious impression), and he said that Saddam intervened, but pardonned his
son after few weeks (even after murders).

So it is clear, that S.H. regime MUST end, but from inside. Threatening the
Iraqi people with war just unifies it in its support for the (hated) regime
& will not remove the ruler.

Did you ever get known, that masses demonstrate against the US presence in
the Golf region yesterday, - in Iran, as they feel it as a threat ? Danger
escalates now on a fast pace. Beware !

Yes, this letter has to do with music also. There are horn players in
Bagdad, in the National Philharmonic, an orchestra, which exists over 50
years now. They play our music: Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, even Mendelssohn.
The orchestra has some 50+ members. All are suffering very much under the
shortage in all possible supplies.

If you pray, if you still can pray in this world, pray for our colleagues in
Baghdad as well as for our colleagues, who will be deployed to the golf.
