On a slightly related note... has anyone ever tried using spray-on teflon
lubricant for bell threads or any other part of the horn?? I've used it on
very finely machined bike parts but haven't chanced it on my horn yet... any
thoughts??

We have found that the best lubrication for bell rings is graphite.
Take a soft lead pencil and scratch it across the threads on the bell flare
15 or 20 times. This should keep the noise down and will lubricate the ring
without it picking up dirt and dust which will eventuallly cause wear on the
threads.
