Forgive the cross-post all, There has been a great deal of questioning regarding suggestions for mostly repertoire lately. The librarians of the list have been fairly patient in directing people to resources that are under utilized. One major resource that used to be around in libraries and most decent high schools was the reference series published by the Instrumentalist Magazine. Everyone knows (used to) about the Anthologies of collected articles. Additionally, there are bibliographies for music that list solos, chamber music, band and orchestral repertoire. In the solo/chamber section it is "broken down Barney style" listing chamber items with their instrumentation. 99% percent of the rep that has been recommended for whatever combination in recent weeks has been in these (well, the Brass Music Guide anyway). For instance, the recent posting regarding Hn & Fl-Jan Bach: Four 2-Bit Contraptions. The posting for Hn Cl ? yields 29 entries. Now this isn't a definitive listing necessarily (my edition is 1987). Bear Woodson and Richard Burdick are unlikely to be in any addition yet, but most of the standards and major literature are going to be there. Brass Music Guide: Ensemble Music in Print. Compiled by Paul Anderson & Lisa Bontrager. Instrumentalist Company, Northfield, Il. 1987. Just my weekend ramblings while listening to Cartalk and drinking waaaaaayyyyyyyy to much coffee, The Jack Attack!
