It is a matter of length AND fort he longer slides, the curved ones, to
avoid sharp bendings where possible, which cannot be avoided with thzese
short slides fort he 2nd valve.

Subject: [Hornlist] Valve slide shapes

Hello listers:

Is there an acoustical basis for the graceful curve of first and third
valve
slides on the majority of B-flat, F and double horns? I have seen only
very
few horns that had plain, simple, parallel-curved tube first and third
valve
slides (Olds B-flat single comes to mind).
