David wrote with evident glee: >In the pit this week with Princess Ida.
Ah... I'm jealous. I do one G&S a year with the New Lyric Theatre. But, alas and alack, only one. http://newlyrictheatre.com/ So much fun (and the cast, music director, and orchestra are so good) that it's almost always the highlight of my musical year. In the last twelve months, I've played G&S's Patience, Carmina Burana, Elijah, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, symphonies by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, among others, a Schumann piano concerto, and much else that isn't coming immediately to mind. Which would have pained me the most to miss? Not even close. Patience. I can't be the only one on the list who would gladly trade two Mozarts for one G&S. --John ===== J.
