Joyce, As previously noted, Hill makes a Schmidt style horn that is supposed to be very good and Yamaha made some, but they are somewhat rare. As you know, Conn, King and York made Schmidt style horns as well decades ago. According to Milan Yancich, Carl Geyer thought that the Schmidt design was the best horn design and I believe that the horns he made for Wünderlcih in Chicago prior to 1916 were Schmidt pattern instruments..
As far as what Schmidt style horns are the best, probably the original C.F. Schmidt horns. I know three people 1 professional and two amateurs who own original Schmidts and they are wonderful instruments. Of course, the only problem is that none have been made since the early 1940's. If you can get one in good condition or one that has been refurbished by a master repair technician, you are getting a fine instrument.
